First Timers

Is this your first visit to Pilates Centre? Then here's everything you need to know.

Booking a Class

To sign up for a class:

Everyone must create their own Pilates Centre account before attending our studio or joining a class. This can be created by clicking the 'My Account' button in our menu. The system will guide you through making an account on there.

Once you've created your account, you can head to our schedule, choose the day you'd like to join a class, click the 'sign up' button next to the class you'd like to do, and you'll be brought to the store to pay for your class. We recommend you download the Pilates Centre app for super easy booking! Look up 'Pilates Centre' in the app store of your phone or tablet.

Which Class to Choose

If you've never been to Pilates Centre before, we recommend booking a private lesson initially. If this isn't possible, you can start with a 'Basics' level group class in Reformer (on equipment) or Studio Mat (on our Classical Mats with use of props and equipment to compliment) or Tower (using springs attached to a wall Tower). These are all suitable for beginners. We also recommend Basics classes if you've done Pilates before but not recently or are new to our studio. All of our classes are designed to support each other. If you plan to come to class more than once a week, we suggest you mix your classes. If you can only come once a week, then try them all and choose which class will benefit you most. You can always ask your teacher for advice after they've seen you in class.

When to move up to the next level:

If you’re thinking you might be ready to move to the next level feel free to ask your teacher for advice. As a guide (and it’s so different for everyone) people usually do a minimum of 12 Basics Reformer or Studio Mat classes before moving to Beyond Basics. You’ll stay in Beyond Basics for 6 months to a year before moving to Intermediate. Our Advanced Reformer and Mat classes are TRUELY Advanced - it’s a whole flow of body and mind coordination and you’re expected to know your stuff… You should be practising Pilates regularly and consistently for years and be injury free to join the Advanced classes. Tower classes only have 3 levels. It’s designed as a complimentary class to your Mat and Reformer workouts. If you’re doing Beyond Basics Reformer and Mat you’re probably ready for Intermediate Tower. If you’re doing Intermediate Reformer and Mat you’re probably ready to move to Advanced Tower. In short, your Tower classes are designed to prepare you to move up to those higher level Reformer and Mat classes.

We want to keep you safe in class as well as make sure you're benefitting from your lesson. At times your teacher may suggest you move to a lower or higher level if they feel you've chosen an unsuitable class level.

Waitlist - How it Works!

If a class is full, you'll be offered the option to put your name on the waitlist. If someone cancels, the system will automatically allocate you a place and you will receive an automated email or text to confirm that you've been added to the class. Emails may go to your spam or promotional folders. (You must 'opt in' to receive notification emails or texts on your MindBody account to receive this. If you choose not to receive any notifications, it is your responsibility to keep an eye on your account yourself to see if you get a place.)

If you no longer wish to go to the class, you need to cancel as normal via your online account (go to 'my info' then 'schedule'). Please cancel your waitlist place as you would a regular class booking, otherwise if you get a place and don't turn up, the class is deducted from your class pass. Don't assume you won't get a place – you may be automatically added for an 11 a.m. class at 2 a.m. in the morning, so if you don't want a last-minute morning class, make sure to cancel off the waitlist the night before!

Private Lessons

Private lessons are great for everyone, but are especially recommended if you:

  • have been referred to us by your physio, GP or surgeon
  • are joining or returning post-pregnancy
  • are in pain
  • are nervous about joining group classes
  • wish to be challenged at your own pace
  • want the teacher's attention solely on you

Private lessons are 45 minutes

What to Bring

Pilates Centre provides everything you need for class so there's no need to bring anything with you relating to Pilates. You might like to bring a towel and a water bottle. We have a filtered water tap, which you can use free of charge.

What to Wear

We advise you to wear comfortable clothing that you can move easily in. Try not to wear anything too loose-fitting as we need to see your posture as you move. You may not have thought of it, but when making your clothing choices for class, you need to check that your private parts will remain private (if you wear loose shorts, you'll need to wear bicycle shorts underneath to avoid flashing us your underwear please). NO BUTTONS OR ZIPPERS ON CLOTHES ALLOWED (yes, even those tiny zippers at your bum!). You can do the classes in your (clean) bare feet or if you'll wear socks please bring a clean pair with you specifically for your class, ideally with grippy soles.

If you turn up to class in inappropriate clothing, you will be refused entry to class and will not receive a refund for the booking.

Jewellery

Please remove any jewellery before class – this is for your safety (it can reduce your circulation), but we also request that you follow this advice to protect our equipment from damage.

Phones

When you arrive at the studio, please ensure that your phone is turned off so as not to disturb others in class. We have lockers available for your small belongings and ask you leave your phone in there during class.

If you'll need to bring your phone into class in case of emergency please inform your teacher in advance of your class starting that you may need to leave to take a call to avoid disrupting the class.

You're welcome to take pictures of the studio/yourself before or after your class but not during it. Please ensure it is solely you in any pictures and that you're not taking images of others without their knowledge or consent.

Cancellation Policy

All group class cancellations must be done yourself from your personal Pilates Centre account (no cancellations can be accepted by phone, voicemail or email). If you would like to cancel your group class, you can do so up to 8 hours before your class starts. If you cancel after this window, it is a 'late cancellation' and charged at full price. A private Pilates lession can be cancelled with 24 hours' notice. Any cancellations after that time will be payable at full price. Workshops and masterclasses have their own cancellation policy, which will be stated when scheduled.

Returns Policy

All trial passes are valid for 1 month only, with no extensions or refunds offered.

All other class passes have an expiry of one year.

There are no refunds, extensions or transfers offered.

Any purchased group classes that are booked and then cancelled with 8 hours' or more notice will be returned to your Pilates Centre account (not your bank account) to be booked at another time convenient to you. 24 hours' notice is needed to cancel private lessons free of charge.

Gift vouchers have no expiry date.

(This cancellation policy was updated 18th of June 2020.)

Please let us know of any injuries, ailments or physical impairments in advance of booking group classes. Private lessons may be recommended, where you'll learn how to make your group class experience safe and enjoyable.

What Our Clients Say

'I used to suffer from back, shoulder and neck pain on and off as a result of a minor car accident, and the muscles never really recovered. However, since I started doing Pilates, I noticed my back, shoulder and neck muscles are so much stronger than before. I could really feel a difference after 5 or 6 classes. It’s been fantastic.'

Caren

'When I first started at Pilates Centre, I was constantly aware of my back pain due to a disc injury. Within no time of taking a couple of classes a week, I started to forget that I had a back problem at all! It's just great.'

Ann Marie

'I started Pilates as an addition to my running training. It had taken me 9 months of running to shave 20 seconds off my 5k run time. It took 5 Pilates classes at Pilates Centre to shave off an additional 20 seconds!'
