Matwork - Basics
This class is suitable for beginners. You will learn the Basic 10 movements that are part of the Classical Pilates Matwork sequence as well as movement skills that will teach you to move in a healthy way.
Matwork - Beyond Basics
Here you'll learn more movements to build into your sequence that will require new skills. You should be familiar with the movements from the Essential Basics level class (name, set up, how to perform them safely) before joining this class.
Matwork - Intermediate
Here you'll learn to perform the full Intermediate Classical Pilates Matwork sequence. You should be familiar with the movements from the Beyond Basics level class (name, set up, how to perform them safely) before joining this class.
Matwork - Advanced
Here you'll learn to perform the Advanced Classical Pilates Matwork sequence. You should be able to perform the Intermediate sequence proficiently (name, set up, how to perform them safely) before joining this class.
Not suitable if you have any injuries or pain.
Reformer - Basics
Suitable for beginners. The Reformer is Pilates equipment that has a moving carriage and uses springs to assist and resist you as you move. The machine helps you to become more body aware as you're moving. Reformer classes follow a specific sequence of movements that you'll build upon as you move up levels.
Reformer - Beyond Basics
In this class you'll learn additional movements in the Classical Reformer sequence, building upon the movements you learned in Essential Basics. This class prepares you to move forward to the Intermediate class.
Reformer - Intermediate
You will learn the full Intermediate Classical Reformer sequence in this class. You can only join this class if you are familiar with all of the movements from Beyond Basics level (names/set up/how to safely perform them).
Reformer - Advanced
You will learn the full Advanced Classical Reformer sequence in this class. You must be able to proficiently perform the full Intermediate sequence before joining this class and will be expected to take responsibility for the set up/transitions and number of springs used.
Not suitable if you have any injuries or pain.
Tower - Basics/Beyond
This class is suitable for everyone, including beginners. Tower classes are a really great place to build up your strength and flexibility with the support of the springs. You will do many movements here that are similar to Matwork and Reformer, but assisted with springs on a stable mat so that you can learn how to balance your muscles while moving.
Movements that are more advanced on the Mat and Reformer are achievable sooner here so it's a great class to add to your weekly workouts if you're considering moving up to the next level in your Mat or Reformer classes.
Tower - Intermediate
At this level it's assumed that you know how to set up your equipment and that you are familiar with all of the Basics/Beyond Basics movements. To prepare you for this you should have already done any of the Mixed Equipment classes, the Basics/Beyond Basics level Tower class or some One to One sessions.
Tower classes are a really great place to build up your strength and flexibility with the support of the springs. You will do many movements here that are similar to matwork, but assisted with springs so that you can learn how to balance your muscles while moving.
Chair - Basics/Beyond
Suitable for everyone. The Pilates Chair is a fun class that will give you a full body workout. The Chair offers lots of unilateral exercises which will help you to work on any one sided imbalances. It offers a really great full body workout with an emphasis on balance throughout. The best way to practice Pilates is to attend Matwork and Reformer classes. You then use the Chair class as an additional class to support that work.
Chair - Intermediate
You can join this level Chair class if you've already done some Basics/Beyond Basics Chair classes, Mixed Equipment classes or One to Ones. You must know how to set up your own equipment and be comfortable with the Basic/Beyond Basics movements.
Mixed Equipment - Basics/Beyond
Mr. Joseph Pilates designed lots of great apparatus to ensure we could achieve uniform development of our bodies. Each piece assists and challenges us differently. This class will introduce you to the various pieces of Pilates equipment - Chairs, Towers, Foot Correctors and Arcs. You might use all of the equipment in one class or sometimes just a couple of pieces, whatever your instructor feels you need to get the best Pilates workout on the day!
If you find out that you are pregnant (congratulations!) and are already doing Pilates you can continue with your regular class if you're feeling good, and your doctor clears you to, up until 12 weeks.
From 12 weeks into your pregnancy you may join the pregnancy Pilates class (this is the only group class you may attend during your second and third trimesters). You must check with your doctor to ensure you are cleared for exercise during pregnancy before signing up. This class uses the equipment and mat to keep you moving well throughout your pregnancy. All of the exercises done in class are suitable during pregnancy. If you have any injuries or are in pain we recommended you attend one to one classes and not group.
When you are ready to return to Pilates after your pregnancy, and when your doctor has cleared you, we recommend starting with an initial one to one class. Every birth has a different impact on each woman's body so time on your own with the instructor to guide your way back into a Pilates routine that is safe for your individual recovery is the best start you can give yourself when you return. Your instructor can advise you after this session whether you need more private sessions or if you'll be safe to join a group class.
Private classes are recommended if you:
- have been referred to us by your physio, GP or surgeon
- are joining or returning post
- are in pain
- are nervous about joining group classes.
Sometimes you'll just need one private session to be brought through the Basics and be guided on how to take care of yourself in a group class. If you're in a lot of pain or would struggle to keep up in a group you can continue to do private classes until your teacher agrees you're ready for group classes. You can choose to continue with private classes if you want your classes specifically designed for your individual needs. If you've been referred by your doctor, surgeon or physiotherapist to work on a specific complaint generally private classes are recommended.
Private classes are 50 minutes long
